Favorite places in Istria - the northwest

Istria is a small paradise that combines everything: picturesque hilltop towns, endless olive groves and vineyards, turquoise blue sea, charming old towns and a cuisine that is second to none. We would like to share some of our favorite places with you and hope that you will soon be able to explore this beautiful region for yourself.

Hill towns: Grožnjan and Motovun

We are particularly fond of the northwest. Here you will find real gems such as the hilltop towns of Grožnjan and Motovun. We were particularly taken with Grožnjan, the town of artists: winding alleyways, old stone houses, small galleries and a lively, creative flair.

At the Pizzeria Amodo Mio not only do you get delicious pizzas, but the view from the back terrace is simply unforgettable. Walk through the restaurant to find the best seats!

If you're lucky, you'll meet the artist Marko Brajkovic there - and if he's not in his gallery, he's probably enjoying the sun on the idyllic terrace.

Be sure to visit Marko Brajkovic 's gallery - a real highlight for art lovers.

Vižinada region: Bajkini, wine and olive oil

The Vižinada region is not far from Grožnjan. In the small village of Bajkini you will find our olive oil producer Bajkin. The olive oil is sensational and the place alone, with its beautiful surroundings, is worth a visit.

And if you love wine, you should definitely visit the two wineries Vina Rossi and Franc Arman they are among the best addresses in the region.

Restaurant tips

Of course, good food is also a must! Here are two recommendations that we are particularly proud of.

  • Konoba DolinaRather inconspicuous and a little out of the way, but in our opinion this place has the world's best truffle pasta!

  • Konoba Jadruhi: Perfect for fish and meat lovers. We particularly liked the relaxed, rural atmosphere.

Have you ever been to a vinegar tasting? Then you should definitely visit the beautiful Tenuta Tre Terre estate near Momjan. Surrounded by rolling hills and vineyards, you can sample some of the finest red and white wine vinegars there - a real taste experience! The fine vinegars Nota from Tenuta Tre Terre can also be found in our store.
