Grožnjan - A town of artists to stay in
Not far from our producer Bajkin, is the small village of Grožnjan, also known as "The City of Artists". It has a fascinating history that dates back to ancient times. Over the centuries, the town has been ruled by various rulers, including Romans, Venetians and Habsburgs. Each of these cultures has left its mark on the city's architecture and cultural diversity. The narrow, winding streets lined with cobblestones lead to ancient churches and squares with breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside and other hill towns, such as Motovun.
In the 1960s, after Grožnjan had almost become an abandoned ghost town, the town experienced a remarkable resurrection. It was discovered by a group of artists and intellectuals who settled in the old, dilapidated buildings and began to transform the town into a center for art and culture. Today there are countless galleries and studios in Grožnjan. Artists from all over the world come here to be inspired by the picturesque surroundings and creative atmosphere.
Grožnjan also has a lot to offer in terms of cuisine! The small restaurants or konobas (traditional Croatian inns) offer delicious dishes of Istrian cuisine prepared from local ingredients. Here you can taste fresh fish, truffle dishes, olive oils and excellent wines. Some of the restaurants offer a fantastic view of the surrounding landscape. On clear days, you can even see the Adriatic coast in the distance.
An absolute must is a visit to the Fratellini Gallery of the contemporary and renowned artist Marko Brajković. His art is difficult to describe. It touches you deeply and must be experienced! His works are characterized by powerful colors and precise detail work, blurring the boundaries between reality and fantasy. With a little luck, you will meet the artist himself, who is happy to share his thoughts and inspirations with interested people.
