Health secret olive oil

Olive oil is considered a superfood, but why actually? The health benefits of extra virgin olive oil are very diverse! But it also depends on the quality, only high quality olive oils are healthy!

The polyphenols contained in olive oil have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that can help fight many chronic diseases, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes and arthritis. The oil's main polyphenols include oleocanthal as well as oleuropein. These two bitter compounds are mainly responsible for the bitter, or pungent, taste that distinguishes high-quality olive oil.

In addition to its impressive antioxidant content, extra virgin olive oil is rich in monounsaturated fatty acids. These are healthy fats that are associated with several benefits. Oleic acid, the main fatty acid in olive oil, has a positive effect on cholesterol levels and can lower harmful LDL cholesterol. Thus, it can contribute to healthier blood lipids and improve heart health.

Extra virgin olive oil also contains a good amount of vitamin E, which is an essential nutrient and at the same time acts as an antioxidant. Together with the unsaturated fatty acids, it delays the aging process of human cells, especially skin cells. Olive oil can also be applied externally as a nourishing oil and can thus protect the skin and promote skin health.

There is evidence of lower mortality from cardiovascular disease in Mediterranean countries where olive oil makes up a large part of the diet. So the Mediterranean diet is not only top healthy but also incredibly delicious! Soon we will share exquisite recipes from the Mediterranean cuisine in our Inspirations.
